AGE member organisation énéo, the seniors’ social movement from Belgium, organised a meeting with candidates to the European elections. Four candidates discussed the future of the European Pillar of Social Rights, health issues, mobility, climate change and accessibility, tax justice.
The event was attended by:
- Mr. Jean-Jacques Flahaux (MR/MCC)
- Mr. Cédric du Monceau (Cdh)
- Mrs. Marie Arena (PS)
- Mrs. Cécile Cornet (Ecolo) replacing Mrs. Saskia Bricmont
It came out from the debate that, in a context of ever-increasing populism, working “like Belgians and Luxembourgers” with a high sense of compromise would be key. Dialogue between institutions should be facilitated while the ‘raison d’être’ of the European Union should be strengthened with more social rights granted to Europeans and robust fiscal instruments to achieve these social ambitions. To re-enchant Europe, we must urgently fight against injustice at European level.
