AGE member APRe!: ‘Ageing and social conditions after retiring are major challenges for the European society as a whole’

AGE member organisation APRe!, the Association of Retirees, Pensioners and Retired Persons from Portugal, has issued a position on the coming European elections.

Aware that the older population is an increasingly large and influential group, in Portugal and in the European Union, APRe! considers that active participation in the 2019 European elections is imperative. Although the situation in each country may be different, ageing and the social conditions after leaving the labour market are major challenges that are faced by society as a whole at European level.

The interest of APRe! in the European elections the main objective is to defend the rights of the social group it represents and to mitigate their vulnerabilities or weaknesses. This mitigation depends on national public policies but also on specific European policies that are affecting the living conditions of our members and the people of our country.
